Low Sodium Worchestershire Sauce Recipe

When my mom first figured out she was allergic to MSG we spent a lot of time in the kitchen figuring out how to make many things at home. This one of the least enjoyable of them, since I was the guinea pig and had to taste store bought worchester sauce and compare it to our own concoction

INGREDIENTS

1/2 cup cider vinegar
1/2 cup molasses
4 1/2 t minced garlic
1/2 t red pepper
1/4 to 1/2 t wood smoke
2 T brown sugar
1 t onion powder

DIRECTIONS

Mix well then heat in microwave until it bubbles (approx 1 minute), then mix again and let cool.

  1. What kind of red pepper do you use? Is it dried pieces of red pepper? Or would powdered cayenne do? Or dried paprika? Same amount? (1/2 tsp.)

    1. I do use dried red pepper flakes. If you use cayenne, I'd recommend 1/2 teaspoon cayenne powder per 3/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes.

Sorry for the late repy (only a couple of years late). I didn't see your comment come through!
